Just spent the weekend lost in the eerie corridors of Dragonbone City Styxia, and let me tell you, finding those Golden Scapegoats was NOT the relaxing gaming session I had planned! It's 2025, and Honkai: Star Rail still has me pulling my hair out with these puzzles. But hey, at least I can laugh about it now that I've conquered them all.
So there I was, fresh off accompanying Castorice during her whole fate-ending Pathstrider mission. Poor girl went through quite the journey - from learning the truth about herself to performing that intense Netherwing ritual and claiming her demigodhood. I stood there like an idiot watching her ride off on a dragon back to the Nether realm. Cool cinematic, but then I'm left thinking, 'Now what?'
Well, apparently 'now what' meant hunting down three Golden Scapegoats hidden throughout this spooky city. WHY? Because I'm a completionist with questionable life choices, that's why.
Golden Scapegoat #1: Harbor Hide-and-Seek
For the first one, I teleported to the Ancient City Market Space Anchor in the 3-D Navigation room. Easy enough, right? WRONG. Because it had to be during Evernight space-time specifically. I spent 20 minutes wondering why nothing was working before I realized this crucial detail. 🤦♂️
Then I had to:
-
Take the upper stairs down to the harbor (tripped twice)
-
Find this Oronyx's Miracle: Rune of Recollection thing
-
Get a Miracle Orb that followed me around like a clingy pet
-
Reverse the space-time to Dawn (because apparently one time dimension wasn't confusing enough)
-
Move in the opposite direction (of course, why be straightforward?)
-
Place the orb on some mechanic by the northern door to switch BACK to Evernight
And finally—FINALLY—I found the darn thing hiding behind a huge rock. Like, seriously? A rock? That's the best hiding spot the game designers could come up with?
The puzzle solution was a whole other headache involving button presses that made me feel like I was trying to input cheat codes on my old PS2. Up, down, left, right... I swear I was doing Konami code at one point.
Golden Scapegoat #2: Stairway to Frustration
For the second one, I had to return to that same Space Anchor, but this time:
-
Get another Miracle Orb (my new best friend at this point)
-
Switch to Dawn again
-
Take different stairs (because variety is the spice of gaming torture)
-
Head south
-
Climb stairs on the right ALL THE WAY UP (my virtual legs were burning)
And there it was! Golden Scapegoat #2, looking all smug atop its perch.
The puzzle solution for this one made the first look like child's play. And then—get this—I had to avoid colliding with MY PAST SELF. Time paradoxes in my puzzle game? Thanks, I hate it. 😑
Golden Scapegoat #3: The Final Boss of Patience
By this point, I was questioning my life choices but too stubborn to quit. For the last one, I teleported to the Treasure Vault Secret Passage on the second floor.
The steps were:
-
Move west to the 3-D Navigation room (more walking, yay)
-
Summon another Rune to switch to Dawn (again)
-
Cross the middle bridge (don't look down!)
-
Descend stairs on the right (more stairs, because my virtual character needed the exercise)
-
Find yet another Rune of Recollection
-
Take the route behind it
And BOOM—there was the final Golden Scapegoat, practically mocking me with its golden glow.
This puzzle solution was so complex I'm pretty sure I accidentally launched someone's nuclear codes while solving it. But I DID IT. ALL THREE SCAPEGOATS FOUND!
Was It Worth It?
Was running around a city of tormented souls trapped between life and death, manipulating time dimensions, and solving obscure puzzles worth whatever reward the game gave me? Probably not.
But did I feel an absurd sense of accomplishment that only fellow gamers would understand? ABSOLUTELY.
And you know what? Looking back at where I started—just tagging along with Castorice as she faced her fate—to becoming a master puzzle-solver and time-manipulator in Dragonbone City Styxia, I've come a long way. Maybe the real Golden Scapegoats were the friends we made along the way?
Nah, it was definitely those annoying statues. But at least I can say I conquered Dragonbone City Styxia's puzzles in 2025, and lived to tell the tale. Now, who's up for finding collectibles in the next zone? Not me. At least not until tomorrow. 🎮✌️
